Jesus and the storm within me
Today I'll share what happened to me this morning.I was fast asleep and my daughter who was also asleep beside me started crying,so I woke up and gave her some milk, cleaned her and went back to to bed.
I heard a calm voice that asked "WHERE IS YOUR FAITH"?
At once I knew it was THE LORD.I IMMEDIATELY KNEW WHY I WAS ASKED THAT QUESTION.The whole morning I was so troubled and there was a storm within me.
The Lord reminded me of the time the apostles held on for dear life when their boat was tossed in the rough sea.
The disciples struggle to keep their boat from capsizing. Finally, they turn to Jesus in anger, crying out, “Teacher, don’t you care that we are going to drown?” As they look to Him, they find Him sleeping on a cushion, in the back of the boat.
When we finally turn to Jesus, we too angrily cry out, “Lord, don’t you care?” As we look to Him, we find Him resting. We wonder, “How can He rest at a time like this?”
In times of disappointment, heartache, sickness, death, financial difficulties or when the storms of life are raging all around God sometimes feels very far away. We can start to wonder why He let this happen, or why He isn’t doing something, right now, to stop it or fix it. He could have prevented this storm and He didn’t. As we come to the end ourselves in our storms of life, we angrily cry out, “Lord, don’t you care?” And His reply is, “Where is your faith?”
As the story continues, Jesus awakes and says to the storm, “Peace! Be Still!” and there was instant calming. A word from Jesus was all it took. The disciple’s desperation ceased and they were left in awe and amazement. The Disciples had witnessed the greatest miracles of Jesus, yet they were consumed with fear. Jesus was physically with them, and they waited until the last minute to ask Him for help.
We wonder, “Shouldn’t it have it occurred to them, to ask Him for help, right away?” We should ask ourselves that same question in the desperate situations we face. Why go through all the worry and struggle, when we can just ask Jesus to calm the storm?
We can declare, “It’s just not that easy. Besides, Jesus was with them, physically.” If we believe in God’s Word, if we trust completely in what He says, then we must know that He is with us too.
Maybe right now you are facing a terrible storm in life. Your troubles seem only to accelerate: financial problems, marriage problems, job troubles, you are about to lose your loved one to a terrible disease . A sea of trouble rages inside you, but the Lord seems to be sleeping through it all. Tell me, has your faith been sapped? Do you say in your heart, "God, don't you care? Will you let me go down in this storm?"
My dear sisters I have asked The Lord these questions all my life.So I understand your pain.
Look at the types of storms in your life
1. Thunderstorm: We get a knock every now and then, a bump, a nudge. It's a warning sign.
2. Heavy Rain: This storm is like stress, holding in too much, doing too much. It is initially refreshing, but if it doesn't stop, it washes away our resources, causing heartaches and headaches.
3. Tornado: First there is quiet like on the sea that evening. We hear it coming, and it's building destruction Some ignore warning , do not heed either God's Word or common sense.
4. Ice Storm: On slippery ground, we walk and fall or slide, can't stand up. Weight bears down on us as ice on tree limbs, bending back toward the earth. We can't seem to find anything to hold on to. God is telling us that there is something to hold on to if you face bruises and bumps.
5. Hurricane: Take precautions; get ready for destruction; perhaps death is imminent. Even then we can be safe in Jesus' arms if we know who is in control.
Whatever type it is, it is your storm, and Jesus provides a means for each of us, just like our brothers on the boat that evening, to ride out the storm. It's your storm. You can't have mine. I can't have yours. Each person must live out his or her own storm because the storms will surely come, and they will surely pass.
